Directions:

Begin By Preparing the Surface

Always test a small area before use to ensure that FAMOWOOD Dura-Tuff is compatible.

Aluminum:

  1. On new surface: Clean surface with commercial solution of phosphoric acid and rinse thoroughly with clean water. Use ALODINE 1201 Coating chemical, which produces a light gold to tan chemical conversion coating on aluminum, that provides corrosion resistance and paint adhesion.
  2. On old surface: Remove all paint, grease or oil contaminants can clean surface as above.

Fiberglass:

  1. Sand with medium grade production sandpaper until surface has a matte finish with no trace of gloss or sheen remaining.
  2. After sanding, wipe with a clean cloth saturated with paint thinner.

Wood:

  1. Remove all old paint and san surface with course-grade production sandpaper.
  2. Fill all abrasions, dents, cracks and holes with FAMOWOOD Wood Filler.
  3. Sand with medium-grade to remove any scratches from previous sanding and blend in filled areas.
  4. Finish snading with fine-grain production sandpaper.
  5. Remove all dirt and dust with a clean cloth saturated with paint thinner.

Applying To Surface

Follow these step-by-step directions when using FAMOWOOD Dura-Tuff Clear Coat:

  1. Dura-Tuff clear coat is ready to use. No mixing or thinning required.
  2. Maintain minimum 30% humidity in work area.
  3. TEST SMALL AREA BEFORE FULL USE. Apply only on dry surfaces, as moisture will stop the curring process.
  4. Remove all grease, wax, paint, paint remover and other contaminants.
  5. Sand surface smooth and wipe clean with tack rag.
  6. Brush or spray on in one direction following the Brushing or Spraying steps noted below.
  7. If applied over existing paints or varnishes, check for compatibility, wrinkling, loss of adhesion, etc.
  8. Always pour amount required for project into separate container. To prevent lip from sticking to container, wipe clean and apply thin layer of paste was to these surfaces.
  9. Under average (70°F) conditions, Dura-Tuff Clear Coat dries tack-free in 2 to 4 hours. If more than 8 hours has elapsed between coats, sand the previous coat.
  10. Brushes or spray equipment may be cleaned with lacquer thinner.
  11. COVERAGE: Approximately 100 square feet per quart.

NOTE:   Always apply in well-ventilated area. Do not thin Dura-Tuff. Wear gloves and appropriate skin protection.

What can FAMOWOOD Dura-Tuff Clear Coat be used on?
MARINE: Above-water areas of fiberglass and wood boats, hydroplanes, driftboards, canoes, oars, paddles, floorboard, seats, decks, walkways, and ultra violet protection for clear epoxy resin surfaces.

HOME: Hardwood floors, exposed aggregate walk and driveways, protect all types of metal, and ultra violet protection for clear epoxy resin surfaces.

SPORTS: Snow and water skis, fishing lures and poles, golf clubs, bows & arrows, gym floors. Any sporting good where wear and tear on the coating is important.

INDUSTRIAL: Industrial floors, clear protection for all types of copper, bronze, ferrous metals and aluminum. (Aluminum should be treated with ALODINE™ prior to applying Dura-Tuff.)

Yes. FAMOWOOD Dura-Tuff Clear Coat is one of the easiest coatings to apply and provides many years of protection.
How long does FAMOWOOD Dura-Tuff Clear Coat take to dry?
FAMOWOOD Dura-Tuff Clear Coat under average (70°F) conditions, dries tack-free in 2 to 4 hours. If more than 8 hours has lapsed between coats, sand the previous coat. FAMOWOOD® Dura-Tuff Clear Coat dries in 1/2 the time as varnishes.
